Korcok holds multiple diplomatic talks at UN General Assembly in NY

Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korcok on Tuesday met with incumbent president of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid, who is also the foreign affairs minister of the Maldives. At the meeting, Korcok expressed his belief that Shahid, as the current head of the UN General Assembly and a representative of small island countries, will bring a whole new perspective to the organisation on the risks stemming from climate change.

On the same day, Korcok met with his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad al-Maliki. To whom he confirmed that Slovakia continues to support a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "We agreed that we'll continue to be in touch at the political level. I assured him of Slovakia's continuing support for development projects via the SlovakAid programme and the granting of government scholarships," said Korcok.

Moreover, Korcok held talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu. The meeting revolved mostly around the security situation in Afghanistan. "We both share an interest in addressing problems in the places where they arise, rather than dealing with them at our borders," claimed Korcok.

Finally, the Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister also met with his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The two ministers held talks on a number of matters, including intensifying bilateral business cooperation between the two countries. At their meeting, the Slovak minister expressed his appreciation for Qatar's contribution towards evacuating thousands of Afghani migrants who fled their homeland following the Taliban's return to power.
