Slovak Police create separate department for detecting environmental crime

The Slovak Police has established a separate specialized department for the detection of hazardous materials and environmental crime. It employs 201 police officers and consists of ten departments and has "exclusive competence" to detect and investigate these crimes. "The biggest challenge at the moment is the education and training of police officers, their gradual dislocation to selected branches and material equipment," Police spokesman Michal Slivka pointed out. He reminded that the police cooperate with the Slovak Environmental Inspectorate and its regional offices in detecting environmental crimes.
