Lubos Machaj will be the new general director of public-service broadcaster RTVS after Parliament elected him to the post in the second round on Thursday. Machaj was born in 1954. After graduating from the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University, where he studied at the Department of Aesthetic Education and Slovak, he joined Czechoslovak Radio in Bratislava in 1978. He was also the director of Bibiana, an international art house for children in Bratislava, and co-founded the first commercial radio station, Radio Twist, where he held the post of programme director. He has continued to work at RTVS in various positions since 2011.
