Remains of Cardinal Tomko arrived to Bratislava

The remains of Cardinal Jozef Tomko have arrived to Slovakia, as an aircraft carrying the coffin touched down at the M. R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava on Thursday afternoon.
A funeral service was held in Vatican's St. Peter's Basilica, with the requiem mass celebrated by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re and the final ceremony carried out by Pope Francis. Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, said that “with Cardinal Jozef Tomko's passing, we've lost a person of firm faith, true spirituality and a lively religious feeling”. The Cardinal's remains will be displayed in St. Martin's Cathedral in Bratislava on Friday and Saturday, August 12-13, with the Holy Mass celebrated on both days. On Sunday and Monday (August 14-15), Tomko's body will be displayed in St. Elisabeth's Cathedral in Kosice, where the public will be also allowed to pay their final respects. Tomko will be buried in St. Elisabeth's Cathedral in a tomb. He was the oldest member of the College of Cardinals and passed away at the age of 98 on Monday (August 8) in his flat in Rome.
