The new Apostolic Nuncio, Nicola Girasoli, has arrived in Slovakia, according to TASR press agency, which was informed by the Press Office of the Slovak Bishops' Conference. After his arrival he visited the Apostolic Nunciature in Bratislava. On Wednesday (24 August) at 6 p.m., he will preside at a solemn Holy Mass at St. Martin’s Cathedral in Bratislava, with the participation of the bishops. Later, he will present his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, the KBS, and the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová. Until recently Nicola Girasoli was Apostolic Nuncio to Peru, and was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to the Slovak Republic by Pope Francis in July. The native of Bari was ordained a priest on 15 June 1980. He received a doctorate in canon law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 May 1985. He served in the Papal Legations in Indonesia and Australia, in the General Affairs Section of the Secretariat of State and subsequently in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Hungary, Belgium, the United States and Argentina. In 2006 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, and in 2011 Apostolic Nuncio to Trinidad and Tobago and other countries.
