The looming energy crisis might be even worse than the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of financing, said Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger. According to him, current estimates show that prices of both gas and electricity for Slovak households will swell approximately by 50% in 2022. Furthermore, the PM warned that if a 15-percent energy saving in comparison to 2020 is not achieved, the price of electricity might skyrocket even by 100%.
"Now we need to talk quite specifically about whether we can keep this increase to a smaller figure for households, so that the people will not feel the pain so badly," added Heger. If no solutions are found, the Government will likely compensate some households for the higher expenditure. The aid for the business sector and public administration is yet to be drafted, with Heger expecting that the price tag for the energy crisis might balloon up to €15 billion.
