State's powers in energy emergencies to be boosted

The state's powers in energy emergencies will be boosted and the government will be allowed to determine the prices of electricity and gas during such emergencies via decrees, according to an amendment to the energy law approved by Parliament on Tuesday. The bill garnered 108 votes out of 145 MPs present in the voting. MPs dealt with the bill in a fast-tracked legislative procedure. "The purpose of the draft law is to prevent the negative impact of a high increase in electricity and gas prices on the most vulnerable customers through a proposal of general economic interest," the Ministry of Economy said. The amendment to the law includes the expansion of the current concept of a state of emergency in the electric power industry. (TASR)
