The most trusted national institution in Slovakia is the military, with 51 percent of people supporting it. The least trusted institutions are the National Council and the Government of the Slovak Republic with 14 percent trust. This is according to a survey conducted by Median SK agency at the beginning of the year. Local governments received the second highest trust in the survey (48 percent). The Office of the President was third, trusted by 43 percent of respondents. This is followed by the police (43 percent) and the courts (25 percent). In the case of trust in international institutions of which the Slovak Republic is a member, the V4 has the highest trust (49 per cent). This is followed by the European Union (47 per cent), NATO (46 per cent), and the United Nations is last (43 per cent).
The survey also tracked perceptions of the major powers. Slovak residents consider both Russia and the United States almost identically as a threat. While Russia is perceived as a threat to Slovakia by 46 per cent of respondents, the USA is perceived as a threat by 44 per cent. The Median SK agency conducted the survey from 9 January to 5 February on a sample of 1,004 respondents.
