A lawyer charged with the murder of Daniel Tupý, was taken into custody by a pre-trial judge of the Bratislava District Court V on Sunday. The decision is not yet final and has been appealed by the defendant.
Student Daniel Tupý was murdered in the evening on November 4, 2005, at a park near Tyršovo Nábrežie in Bratislava. He was killed by multiple stab wounds after he and his friends got attacked by a group of men armed with knives and brass knuckles. According to witnesses, the whole attack lasted about a minute. Six persons were left injured.
The crime made headlines and elicited nationwide condemnation of violence and displays of neo-Nazism. In the past, the police also investigated a version that members of an organized crime goup were behind the attack. Five individuals were originally charged with the murder, but District Court Bratislava I dropped their charges in June 2009.
