Heger needs to allocate money to alleviate 'Food Deserts' in Slovakia

Non-parliamentary Hlas-SD party calls on interim Prime Minister and interim Finance Minister Eduard Heger to allocate funds to save people living in the so-called food deserts in Slovakia, party spokesperson Patricia Medved Macikova stated on Tuesday.

"Not once in its three-year tenure has the incumbent Government helped the people who lack grocery stores in places where they live. There are more than 100 food deserts in Slovakia, with about 300,000 people in jeopardy. The people who can't buy basic foodstuffs in the morning," stated Hlas-SD chair Peter Pellegrini.

Pellegrini urged Heger to allocate €400,000 for mobile grocery stores, calling the situation critical. Party expert on local governance Michal Kalinak added that Heger has a duty to deal with problems of the people in Slovakia first and foremost and spend less time on global problems in the Brussels. "Leaving citizens of the Slovak Republic without foodstuffs in the 21st century is a shame that falls on this Government and that's why I'm sending Heger also the list of villages and a map to help him find them," said Kalinak.
