Slovak and Austrian ambulances could cooperate

Slovak and Austrian rescue services could cooperate in border areas. This follows from the framework agreement between the countries on cross-border cooperation in the field of emergency medical services (EMS), which was approved by the government at Wednesday's meeting.

"This framework agreement determines the legal framework for the international cooperation of the contracting parties in the field of emergency medical services in order to ensure the best possible availability of this service for the residents of both contracting parties in the border area," the document states. The contract should apply to the border territory of the Bratislava and Trnava regions and the federal states of Lower Austria, Burgenland and Vienna in Austria.

According to this contract, EMS would be provided in the event of mass disability of persons or in the case of a person's critical condition. "Urgent medical care at the site of the intervention and transportation of a natural person in danger of life or health to a suitable medical facility will be provided based on an evaluated emergency call and request of the contracting party," the department explained.
