EU diplomatic mission in Ukraine to be led by Slovak diplomat

European Commission's Deputy Director-General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Katarina Mathernova, the highest-ranking Slovak in the EU structures, will head the EU diplomatic mission in Ukraine. Mathernova detailed that she is set to become the EU Ambassador to Kyiv in the autumn, for a tenure of at least three years. "Katarina Mathernova will take up the post of head of the EU delegation to Ukraine at a historically important but extremely challenging time," said interim Foreign Affairs Minister Rastislav Kacer, noting that Ukraine is facing an invasion while at the same time it's seeking to be integrated into the EU. According to the minister, Mathernova is best suited to handle this mission successfully thanks to her extensive professional experience and personal qualities.
