Environment Ministry in disagreement with Parliamentary Speaker Kollár

The Environment Ministry rejects the statement made by Speaker of Parliament Boris Kollár that the ministry representatives acted contrary to the resolution of the parliamentary European affairs committee regarding the ban on internal combustion engines. According to them, his statements are astonishing and they pointed out that interim Environment Minister Ján Budaj was not at the meeting in Brussels. It insists that the ministry's delegation did not violate the committee's resolution by not voting against the regulation to ban the production of internal combustion engines as of 2035.

In a discussion programme on Sunday, Kollár stated that Parliament could deal with a resolution in this connection. He talked about a contradiction in the ministry's action and the resolution, and stressed that the government is subordinate to parliament. "Minister Budaj understands unfounded and untrue criticism as part of a campaign before the early election," commented the ministry. It explained that although the committee ordered the minister to vote against the complete ban on internal combustion engines, it also obliged him to join Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy and Poland, which did not agree with the wording of the text of the regulation.
