The health of one of the two patients admitted to the Bratislava University Hospital, following an accident with ignited methane gas in Novaky Mine, has improved significantly. Hospital spokesperson Eva Kliska on Thursday informed that the improvement enabled doctors to take the miner off the artificial lung ventilation. "He's conscious and responsive. As for the second patient, damage to his respiratory tract has been confirmed, which is why he'll stay on the lung ventilation for the moment," said Kliska.
On Wednesday, methane gas ignited in the Novaky Mine. Nine people suffered burns or were poisoned by breathing in fumes, with the injured hospitalised in Bratislava, Kosice and Bojnice. Four of the miners were in a critical condition and were flown by helicopter to hospitals in an unconscious state. The police launched an investigation into suspicions of public endangerment.
