Slovakia's gas supplies are ready for the next heating season, as the volume of gas in the reservoirs of state-run joint-stock company Nafta recently exceeded 2 billion cubic metres, interim Economy Minister Karel Hirman told a news conference held on Tuesday (May 2), with gas utility SPP general director Miroslav Kulla in attendance.
"The level of readiness in terms of gas supplies is at such a level that we don't even need to worry about the next heating season," stated Hirman. If supplies in the reservoir in Dolni Bojanovice (the Czech Republic) owned and managed by SPP-Distribucia is also included in the volume of Nafta's reservoirs, Slovakia currently has more than 2.5 billion cubic metres of gas, while its annual consumption is some 5 billion cubic metres, said the minister. "We're among the three EU countries with the lowest prices of gas for households," added Hirman.
Kulla said that SPP has 70 percent of its annual gas volume from diversified sources and 50 percent from its own reserves. "We will de facto have gas supplies to cover 120 percent of our annual consumption, so we can completely do without Russian gas," stated Kulla.
