The Goodwill Ambassador at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Alfonso Herrera visited Kosice where he met with refugees from Ukraine. As part of the regional mission, he also visited Poland and Ukraine. Alfonso Herrera met refugee women in Kosice, mostly mothers of small children to discuss the difficulties they face in terms of accessing childcare and the availability of options to rebuild their lives. "The stories of loss, separation and hardship I heard were truly heart-breaking," noted the ambassador. He also saw some of the psychosocial support programmes for refugees, including a workshop for children focused on mental health and psychological support and a theatre course for refugees studying in universities.
