Economy Minister received Belgian Energy Minister

Economy Minister Peter Dovhun received Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten on Tuesday (16 May). They discussed the reform of the EU electricity market, a forthcoming directive on renewable energy sources and expectations of the upcoming presidential trio (Spain, Belgium, Hungary), which will start in July 2023, ministry spokeswoman Maria Pavlusik told TASR on Thursday. Dovhun and Van der Straeten spoke about the development of energy prices, which are partly behind the reform proposal currently being prepared by the European Commission. They agreed that an important objective of the energy market reform is to increase the stability and predictability of electricity prices, while strengthening the competitiveness of the European Union.

Renewable energy sources (RES) and other low-carbon sources, such as nuclear energy, are also important in this context. On this occasion, Dovhun praised the Belgian minister's attitude towards the many pressing energy issues being discussed by the European Commission. "Above all, we need a pragmatic approach that, even in the area of decarbonisation, takes into account the real capabilities of the industry to meet new requirements from the European Union. Our goal is to ensure that our industry is competitive and that prices for energy, goods and services are sustainable," he said.
