The government is interested in maintaining continuity in Slovakia's foreign-policy orientation and wants to manage the Foreign Affairs Ministry via diplomats, not politicians, said caretaker Premier Ludovit Odor after meeting new Foreign Minister Miroslav Wlachovsky on Thursday. Odor stressed that Slovakia wants to be a valid and contributing member of both the EU and NATO. "We will honour all agreements signed by the Slovak Republic and at the same time meet all our commitments," he claimed. Prime Minister Ludovit Odor's first foreign visit will be to Frankfurt am Main, Germany, TASR has learnt from the Government Office.
Odor will visit the city on May 24 to attend celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the European Central Bank (ECB). According to the Government Office, the event will also be attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other European leaders, whom Odor will meet briefly. Meanwhile, the first official meeting between Odor and Czech Premier Petr Fiala is scheduled to take place during the Globsec 2023 Bratislava Forum in late May.
Moreover, new Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Wlachovsky is set to meet his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky in Prague on Friday, TASR has learnt from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
