The basic role of his cabinet is to calmly lead the country to the September election, said Slovak caretaker Prime Minister Ľudovít Ódor. This is also how he will approach the tension between the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) and the police. Ódor stated that the issue of possible replacement of the SIS head is still open and that he wants to make a decision only after considering all "pros and cons". The PM wants to meet SIS director Michal Aláč and Police Corps president Štefan Hamran before deciding on the issue.
Ódor admitted that his government is facing a challenge posed by the state of public finances. "It doesn't look good," he said, adding that the current legislative whirlwind of drafts that have a huge impact on public finances can make the situation even worse. "Every day of the House session brings a risk of the deficit's deepening and adoption of low-quality legislation," stressed the premier who believes that MPs' responsibility for the country will eventually win.
The caretaker premier does not think that his government has room to start a recovery plan for public finances, but he declared that it would prepare recovery measures when drawing up next year's budget. He also wants to formulate measures regarding more targeted state aid to those who need it and offer them to the government that will emerge from the early election.
