Caretaker Defence Minister Martin Sklenar met with his Estonian counterpart Hanno Pevkur on Monday to discuss cooperation on ammunition production, support for Ukraine and the upcoming NATO summit. Pevkur highlighted the need to increase ammunition production. "We currently don't produce 155 millimetre ammunition in Estonia, so this is an area where we would like to cooperate and look for ways to develop this cooperation further," he stressed. Sklenar noted that in addition to good relations, Bratislava and Tallinn also share common interests.
The ministers discussed support for Ukraine and improving the security and defence of both countries. "We exchanged information on our current support, means and possibilities that both countries have to help Ukraine," he noted. At the same time, Pevkur noted that countries on NATO's eastern flank should spend more than two percent of their annual GDP on defence. "We propose that it should be 2.5 per cent," he stressed.
