City of Prague donates money to rebuild Banská Štiavnica after fire

The City of Prague has donated almost €164,745 towards the restoration of buildings destroyed by fire in the town of Banska Stiavnica (Banska Bystrica region) in March, the Municipality of Banska Stiavnica announced on a social network. "An amount of €164,744.65 donated by the City of Prague has been credited to a transparent account opened by the Municipality of Banska Stiavnica to collect money for works after the fire that hit the town on 18 March 2023," the town announced. "The management of the City of Prague contacted the mayor of Banska Stiavnica immediately after the fire and offered to help," the municipality added. Financial aid for Banska Stiavnica is also coming from Hungary. The rectors of the Hungarian universities in Miskolc and Sopron visited Banska Stiavnica on 1 June to express their solidarity with the town. "Both universities are currently collecting donations and will also be sending money to the transparent account," Banska Stiavnica posted on Facebook. The universities have joined an initiative launched by Hungary's national forestry association - the Forestry Star Foundation - which has so far raised €20,000 for the Slovak town. Karoly Gabor Wisnovszky, chairman of the foundation's board of trustees, signed the donation agreement with the mayor of Banska Stiavnica, Nadezda Babiakova.
