President Zuzana Caputova on Monday vetoed an amendment to the Act on the Lease of Agricultural Land, proposing that the bill shouldn't be adopted as a whole, TASR has learnt from the President´s spokesman Martin Strizinec. "The president draws attention to the fact that the approved bill was submitted to Parliament as an MP's proposal that did not pass the inter-ministerial comments procedure. In addition, an extensive change to it, that was submitted just before the proposal was approved in the second reading, fundamentally changed the wording of the approved bill," the spokesman explained. According to the President, the failure to comply with the process prescribed by law had a significant impact on the substantive shortcomings of the bill, in particular on the specificity, clarity and systematic nature of its text. The amendment was submitted to Parliament by Independent MP Tomas Taraba. It was meant to introduce the right of the Slovak Land Fund to withdraw from a lease contract before the expiry of the agreed lease period in case the lessee does not use the leased land in a proper manner for the agreed purpose and with the care of a proper manager.
