V4 and German partners discussing cooperation

Slovak Defence Minister Martin Sklenár praised Germany's continued interest in Slovakia's security, especially its initiative to further provide capabilities to strengthen the Slovak Armed Forces. Sklenár talked with German Deputy Defence Minister Siemtje Möller as part of the Visegrad Group (Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) meeting with Germany. Sklenár informed his German partner about the intention to quickly procure a short- and medium-range air defence system. He also highlighted the donation of two MANTIS very short-range air defence systems, which will additionally strengthen Slovakia's ability to control its airspace.

Leopard tanks are gradually being delivered to Slovakia and other V4 countries as a gift from Germany in return for the provision of infantry fighting vehicles (BVP-1) to Ukraine, the MoD's communications department recalled. At the same time, Germany is planning to transform its contribution to the NATO Multinational Battle Group operating in Slovakia, which will also be reinforced by this type of tanks.
