Slovak authorities react to situation in Russia

President Zuzana Čaputová spoke on the phone with her Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda. They discussed the situation in Russia and Belarus. Caputova and Duda discussed the possible developments on NATO's eastern border. TASR was informed by the President's spokesman Martin Strižinec.

"Although there is no imminent danger to Poland or Slovakia, the Presidents agreed that events should continue to be monitored very closely. Recent days have shown that the policy of the current Russian leadership is not only a threat to security in Europe, but is already affecting the stability of Russia itself," the presidential spokesman said. He added that the partners will continue to communicate and coordinate, as they will do also with their other allies.

Parliamentary chair Boris Kollar expressed his conviction that Ukraine will win the war. In a TV debate on public broadcaster RTVS, he declared continuing Slovak military support for Ukraine.

According to Slovak caretaker Foreign Minister Miroslav Wlachovsky, the attempt in Moscow undermined the authority of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Wlachovsky called the current situation a power struggle. "The difference lies in the way things are solved in the West, in the Alliance and in Russia,” commented Wlachovsky.
