Slovak cities call for improved funding mechanisms

The Union of Slovak Towns negotiated with Environment Minister Milan Chrenko for more effective financial mechanisms, improving links between institutions and local governments. Cities prioritize building sustainable cities due to the significant impact of climate change on city dwellers' lives. Simplifying administrative processes for accessing resources was agreed upon during the meeting. Climate legislation's current state was also discussed, with energy consumption data availability being a main issue for drawing up greenhouse gas reduction documents. Cities propose financial support and staff capacity for document preparation and suggest streamlining the Covenant of Mayors platform on climate and energy. The Union proposes a one-stop shop to advise cities on the climate change agenda.
