Former police officer Stahl remains at large

Former police officer Roman Stahl remains at large. On Monday (21 August) a panel of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic made a final decision. The ex-police officer was charged in the Ezekiel 7 case with the crime of forming, conspiring and supporting a criminal group and other acts qualified as the crime of accepting a bribe. In its decision, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of the prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office against the failure of the Special Criminal Court to remand the accused in custody. On 13 August, the first-instance court found that the prosecution was justified, but did not see the reason for the pre-trial detention, which was based on the fear of influencing witnesses. On Monday, the Court of Appeal also found the charges to be justified. The charges also include suspicion of corruption offences related to influencing the investigation into the Doprastav, Vahostav and Technopol scandals.
