Caputova arrives in New York to attend UN General Assembly

President Zuzana Caputova arrived in New York on Saturday to attend the 78th session of the UN General Assembly and deliver a speech during the General Debate on Wednesday. On Sunday, Caputova met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres before the start of the UN General Assembly. They mainly discussed the security situation in connection with the war in Ukraine and the solution to the climate crisis.

According to the President, these are also the dominant topics of this year's general assembly, which have a direct impact on the lives of all of us. "In the interview, the Secretary General appreciated that, on the issue of Russian military aggression against Ukraine, Slovakia stands on the side of international law and the UN Charter. He also highlighted the steps that our country has already taken and continues to take to achieve climate neutrality by 2050."
The President will also appear at the Sustainable Development Goals summit, one of the most important events of this year's UN General Assembly. Moreover, she will also attend a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden.

In addition, she will launch the Slovak Pro Summit, which aims to connect successful Slovak professionals and experts who work in the USA and are interested in making use of their experience and knowledge to help with development in Slovakia. Her visit to New York will culminate in a gala dinner on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Slovak and Czech Republics and their 30th anniversary of UN membership. Caputova and her Czech counterpart Petr Pavel will welcome other world leaders, as well as prominent personalities of the Slovak and Czech communities in the USA. Caputova is set to return to Slovakia on Friday. This will be her last appearance at the UN as Slovak president.
