Five new parties founded this year

Five new political parties and movements have been registered with the Interior Ministry since January of this year, while one party - the once ruling LS-HZDS party - ceased to exist over the same period of time. Among the newest parties is that of former presidential candidate and MP Radoslav Prochazka, named ‘Siet’ (Network). The Party of Democratic Slovakia (SDS) was founded by one of HZDS's former top officials Sergej Kozlik, who was Deputy Premier and Finance Minister in the 1990s.

The other three parties that have been registered since the beginning of the year are 'Trebisov Aloud', 'Young Petrzalka” and the 'Unity - Leftist Party of Slovakia'. The list is to have one more addition in the near future, as Independent MP Alojz Hlina (former Ordinary People/OLaNO) has indicated that he will register his 'Citizens' Party by the end of the summer. Currently 154 political parties and movements are registered by the ministry. Sixty-eight of them are active while the rest are under dissolution proceedings.
