Defence Minister Martin Sklenar held talks in Germany on Friday to discuss the possibilities of servicing the Leopard tanks that Bratislava has acquired from Munich directly in Slovakia, TASR has learnt from the Defence Ministry.
Sklenar visited the headquarters of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, a world-renowned manufacturer of artillery, wheeled and tracked armoured vehicles, including Leopard 1 and 2 tanks. The talks focused primarily on options to develop existing cooperation.
"Now that we have worked with Germany and KMW on repairs of Ukrainian machinery in [the Slovak town of] Michalovce, opportunities for further cooperation, investments and jobs in eastern Slovakia present themselves," noted Sklenar.
As for the servicing of the Leopards in Slovakia, the repairs could be carried out by KMW in cooperation with a Slovak company named KONSTRUKTA - Defence. (TASR)
