Experts: interest in voting from abroad driven by campaigns

Political scientists see the increased interest of Slovaks in voting from abroad as a result of political campaigns and increased emigration. According to the Ministry of the Interior, more than 40,000 people have already voted this way. Political scientist Darina Malova hopes that the number of votes will increase significantly. Political scientist Juraj Marusiak predicts that if the trend of emigration from Slovakia increases in the future, there will be more interest in voting from abroad. Marusiak attributes the current record interest to the targeted work of some political parties. He also believes that many young people who have recently left Slovakia will vote from abroad, either because they think they will return one day, or because they haven't completely ruled out the possibility. Malova believes that the increased interest in voting from abroad reflects the importance of this election, the growing polarisation of society and, apparently, increased emigration. She stresses that the question of whether we'll remain part of Western civilisation or return to the East is crucial to the future geopolitical and cultural direction of Slovakia.
