Poland to check vehicles crossing Slovak border

Poland will check incoming vehicles at border crossings with Slovakia, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced at an election rally on Monday. He instructed the interior minister to introduce checks on minibuses, vans, cars and buses at the border with Slovakia if they are suspected of carrying illegal migrants. Polish government spokesman Piotr Mueller announced a possible increase in checks at the border with Slovakia on Monday. He was responding to information that illegal migrants were crossing into Poland from Slovakia in increasing numbers. The spokesman explained that the migrants see Poland and Slovakia as transit countries because their destination is Germany. Poland is due to hold parliamentary elections on 15 October, and the ruling Law and Justice party has based its election campaign on the fight against migration.
