Post-election negotiations in Slovakia

Post-election negotiations in Slovakia

The leadership of the Hlas-SD party hasn't ruled out either of the two alternatives for a new coalition yet, but it will hold talks first with general election winner Smer-SD, said its leader Peter Pellegrini after meeting President Zuzana Caputova on Tuesday. He confirmed that he had already held informal talks with Michal Simecka, the leader of election runner-up Progresívne Slovensko.

The leader of the Smer-SSD party, which gained the highest number of votes, said that he had not encountered any programme differences of consequence during talks with their preferred coalition partners, adding that first talks revolve around the future government manifesto and not about individual nominations for ministers.

The leader of the Progresivne Slovensko movement Michal Simecka has completed the first round of informal talks with leaders of the parties of the potential coalition, informing that all parties have confirmed their interest in continuing the talks.

After meeting the President, the head of the Christian Democratic Movement Milan Majerský said that it looks like his party will join the opposition in parliament.

President Caputova will meet 'OLANO and Friends' leader Igor Matovic and Slovak National Party leader Andrej Danko in the coming days.

The parliament will meet for the first time on October 14.
