Austria and Poland will also extend strict border controls

Austria will also extend the strict border controls with Slovakia for another 20 days, until
november 2. Yesterday, the Czech Republic and Hungary announced similar measures. There is widespread concern about increasing numbers of migrants, especially from Syria, crossing the borders from Slovakia into neighboring countries.  The Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said checks are targeted at people-smugglers. He said  Austria detained more than 500 people-smugglers on its territory this year.
