Michal Simecka gives up his job in Brussels to lead the opposition in Slovakia

Michal Simecka, the leader of Progresivne Slovensko, has resigned his job in Brussels to dedicate himself to leading the opposition in parliament the next four years. He was vice-president of the European Parliament, and the first Slovak to hold that office.

Simecka values the experience he built in the European Parliament, calling it great schooling in top politics. He intends to apply his acquired skills in Slovakia. As an opposition leader, he intents to closely follow the government of Smer, Hlas and SNS. As he said: „We need to build a much better, higher quality alternative to their style of governance".

Simecka led Progresivne Slovensko party in this year's parliamentary election in Slovakia, where the party won 18 percent of votes, second only to Smer-SD.
