SaS leader to step down from party chairmanship after 15 years

Richard Sulík, one of the veteran politicians of Slovakia, said that in March 2024 he will retire as chairman of SaS. He co-founded the party in 2009 and has been its leader since then. Sas, which stands for Freedom and Solidarity, is a liberal political party in Slovakia. It generally holds libertarian or anti-statist positions. Richard Sulík is an economist by training who designed Slovakia's flat tax system.

He said today he is not leaving politics and will seek to be elected to the European Parliament.

"Fifteen years of SaS existence also means 15 years of my life. I would be very unhappy if this exceptional political project would end together with its founder," Sulík said.
