The Union of Car Transporters of Slovakia (UNAS) has decided not to organize protest actions and blockades for the moment. Instead, it expresses support for Polish truck drivers who have the same concerns.
Truckers of both countries think the exceptional status of Ukrainian truck drivers within the EU is unfair competition. They want the EU to end the favoured status for Ukrainian drivers.
"We continue to fully support the efforts of Polish carriers,” said Rastislav Curma, of the UNAS. “Their efforts are to protect their own market, and at the same time they point to the liberalization and favoring of Ukrainian transport over other EU member states. This liberalization makes it impossible for Slovak carriers to compete and function at all on the internal market and on the EU market."
