The former Prime Minister Eduard Heger, now in the opposition, is traveling to Brussels today, Tuesday, to speak with EU representatives. Yesterday, he spoke on the phone with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Chairman of the European People's Party, Manfred Weber. He told them that the Robert Fico government plans to abolish the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Specialized Criminal Court.
The main opposition party, Progressive Slovakia, says it will file a constitutional complaint over the Government's plan to abolish or restrict the Special Prosecutor's Office. The PS, too, asked for a meeting with the European Commisison.
The chairman of the Democrats and former Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď said: "If the European Union evaluates that this is an undermining of the rule of law, they will stop our European funds. If something works for Orbán, it is stopping European funds, then he makes concessions".
