Slovakia is likely to join the countries that plan to introduce a four-day working week in a short time, Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) declared at a session of the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday.
Fico added that this would only be an experiment in the early stage.
The Prime Minister pointed to a gradual change in stances of many businesses, which rejected any plan to shorten the working week prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the pandemic led to a significant number of people working from home, many firms have begun to act more flexibly in this regard, thinks Fico.
"I think that Slovakia could in a very short time be one of the countries introducing a 4-day working week, as an experiment, of course," said Fico.
It was the Conference of Labour Unions (KOZ) that opened the discussion on shortening of the working week, According to its chair Monika Uhlerova, the question is no longer whether to shorten the working week but in what way and form. (TASR)
