President Zuzana Caputova in Canada

President Zuzana Caputova met Canadian Premier Justin Trudeau in Ottawa on Tuesday. The last time that a Slovak head of state paid an official visit to Canada was more than 20 years ago.
Caputova said: “We're allies in NATO. Our troops jointly serve in Latvia under Canadian command,” adding that they spoke about potential cooperation in the area of energy supply.

The Slovak president was welcomed in Ottawa on Tuesday morning by the Deputy Governor-General.

“Although I am thousands of kilometres from Slovakia, at every meeting I have attended I've felt a closeness in terms of values, the interests that our countries have, including the need to protect democracy, human rights, and also the fact that they help Ukraine. I feel that I received a really warm welcome in this cold winter,” stated Caputova.

The president also met Slovaks living in Canada, one of many meetings with expats that Caputova will hold during her trip. “I'm pleased that there are success stories behind these people, who had to find a place in this country.” (TASR)
