The vote in Parliament on changes to the Criminal Code started today. Yesterday, several thousand people demonstrated in front of the parliament building to express their disapproval. All opposition MP’s have spoken. Justice Minister Boris Susko defended the proposal by saying it protects constitutional rights and human rights such as personal freedom, family life, the right to a fair trial and the right to legal prosecution. He repeated that under the previous government, criminal law was abused for political purposes and human rights were violated.
The coalition late yesterday added a paragraph to give extra legal protection to judges who are prosecuted.
