Government discusses Kosice Steel Works with new owner
The Slovak government discussed the future of the Kosice Steel Works with the new owner, Nippon Steel, which is in the process of taking over US Steel. The Cabinet was represented at the meeting by vice-premiers, Economy Minister Denisa Sakova and Environment Minister Tomas Taraba. No details were given. The parties said it would be premature, because the transaction won’t be closed before the third quarter of this year.

Separately, Economy Minister Denisa Sakova signed a memorandum of understanding with Sekisui Chemical of Japan, with the aim of attracting solar panel production to Slovakia. She would also like to see research and development in this field in Slovakia. (TASR)
