Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) on Tuesday attended the opening of the UNESCO International Conference in Abu Dhabi, stressing the need to preserve the uniqueness of cultural expressions as the basis of diversity and the importance of cultural education in the formation of cultural identity in her speech.
The minister appeared in a panel debate on quality lifelong learning in culture through cultural diversity. "Cultural education is an important part of lifelong learning. Art and culture form the basis for preserving our identity as a nation, but also our humanness. That is why I see it as extremely important that we also pay appropriate attention to cultural education in our country," Simkovicova said, as cited by the Culture Ministry.
"But at the same time, nations should protect the uniqueness of their cultural expressions because diversity is a natural part of the formation of each nation's cultural identity," the minister added.
At the conference in Abu Dhabi, ministers of culture and education will adopt a revised UNESCO Framework for Culture and Arts Education. This important international document is an opportunity to bolster the global consensus aimed at linking culture and education and promoting integrated policies in the field of culture and education, the Culture Ministry said.
