Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová dismissed the directors of two cultural institutions on Monday: the International House of Art for Children, and the Slovak National Library in Martin.
A spokeswoman said that in the first case, “the minister used the legal option of appeal without giving a reason." The director of the public library was considered responsible for insufficient protection against cyber attacks, insufficient protection of intangible cultural heritage and misconduct in managerial activities.
Zora Jaurová, of the opposition PS party, called the firings unjustified. She expects the minister to replace the directors with nominees close to the party and with dubious qualifications.
