Poll: Smer would have won general election in March

Had a general election taken place in the second half of March, it would have been won by Smer-SD on 21.6 percent, a recent poll carried out by Ipsos agency on behalf of daily Dennik N has shown.

Smer would have been followed by Progressive Slovakia (PS) on 20.2 percent and Hlas-SD on 16.3 percent.

Other parties to make it into parliament would have included SaS on 6.7 percent, the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) on 6.2 percent and Republika on 5 percent.

The currently parliamentary coalition of OLaNO, For the People (Slovakia) and the Christian Union would have failed to make it on 5.8 percent as coalitions of parties need to garner at least 7 percent of the votes to be elected. The Slovak National Party (SNS), currently in Parliament, wouldn't have made it, either, obtaining only 4.1 percent of the votes.

The poll was carried out on a sample of 1,009 respondents between March 16 and March 19.
