Sahara dust cloud in Slovakia

Sahara dust cloud in Slovakia

The concentration of Saharan dust in Slovakia reached its peak on Monday, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) reported. The dust particles may be harmful to property, but also to health. "Basically, the smaller the particle, the more harmful it is to our organism and lungs," informed environmentalist Milos Fodor. However, according to The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute measurements, such as micro-dust particles are even fewer than, for example, during winter, when there is smog in the air from heated homes. Nearly 200 million tonnes of dust are released from the Sahara every year. It is now being brought to Slovakia by a warm current, and experts say we should gradually get used to it, also because of climate change.
