The voter turnout in the run-off round of the presidential election reached 61.14 percent, with 2,671,279 voters casting ballots, the State Electoral Commission confirmed with the official results at a news conference on Sunday. Almost 20,000 votes were invalid.
"This was the second highest election turnout in the history of independent Slovakia," stressed Statistics Office chairman Martin Nemky.
The highest voter turnout was in the Bratislava region, 70.93 %. The lowest turnout was 52.28% in the Košice region.
Moreover, the result of the second round of the presidential election is the closest in the history of direct presidential elections in Slovakia. The difference between the winner Peter Pellegrini and Ivan Korčok is 6.25 percent of the vote (a difference of 165,546 votes).
