Slovakia condemns Iran's attack on Israel

Slovakia condemns Iran's attacks on Israel. It calls for restraint and a return to the search for peaceful solutions for the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic stated.

Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová also strongly condemned the attack. According to her, further escalation must be avoided.

"The attacks significantly increase tensions and the risk of a wider conflict in the region," posted the Foreign Ministry on its social media.

The Ministry stresses the need for renewed dialogue and diplomacy. "We call on all parties to exercise restraint and return to the search for peaceful solutions for the Middle East," the  Ministry appeals.

The Ministry has previously reported that it is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East region following Sunday's attack. It is in contact with embassies, which are monitoring it on the ground. It urged the citizens of the Slovak Republic who are currently in the area to follow all travel advisories for their own safety. In case of emergency, Slovak citizens can contact the relevant Slovak embassies.

Iran attacked Israel with more than 300 drones and missiles overnight on Sunday, the Israeli military said. Israel and allies managed to shoot down up to 99 percent of them. Tehran said it was in retaliation for an Israeli-attributed raid on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, as well as other "crimes" including the war against the Palestinian militant movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
