Prime Minister Robert Fico wants to use the money savings for pensions in the second pillar, but also private investments, within the framework of PPP projects to repair railways and roads. He wants to cooperate with Chinese investors. The state has no money for road and railway infrastructure that has been neglected for decades. Fico therefore wants to use other financial resources.
The expert points out that PPP projects cannot be used for reconstruction, but only for new construction. "PPP projects are suitable when we want to build something new. Not for the reconstruction of something that you already have in the property of the state. Do we want to give the bridges to the Chinese so that they can own them for 20 years, reconstruct them and keep our entire infrastructure in their hands?" asks Ondrej Matej, the director of the Institute for Transport and Economy.
The project would support the Slovak construction industry. However, Slovakia lacks almost 100,000 employees. Entrepreneurs count on people from third countries. In order to employ them, administrative processes must first be simplified.
