Bratislava mayor honours seven personalities

In the P. O. Hviezdoslav Theater in Bratislava, Mayor Matúš Vallo awarded the Bratislava Mayor's Award 2024 on Thursday evening. This year's laureates were seven personalities and one family. One of the awards was given in memoriam. This year's awards are mainly intended to highlight the importance, significance and contribution of various communities in the city.

Egon Gál was awarded for his personal contribution to the development of the Jewish community, its tradition and mutual understanding in the capital. For the establishment of the University Pastoral Center St. Jozef Freinademetz priest and writer Milan Bubák was awarded. Sandra Pazman Tordová was awarded for her long-term leadership of the Nota bene project and helping homeless people to integrate them into normal life. Public transport driver Roman Pavle received an award for saving the life of a young girl. During his duty, he noticed a young girl sitting on the railing of the Apollo Bridge, stopped the bus and spoke to her. Barbara Zavarská and Illah van Oijen received the award for their contribution to the development of communities and neighborhoods, especially for the long-term organization of the Dobry Trh. The Hoang family which has been running a bistro on the Miletičova market for 12 years was awarded for the popularization of Vietnamese cuisine.  

The in memoriam prize was awarded to ecologist and conservationist Andrej Kovarik for his fight for greenery, trees and a healthy environment. The Bratislava Mayor's Award is the most important city award with a long tradition.
