Office hours of outpatient emergency rooms for children to be cut

The office hours of outpatient emergency rooms for children could be shortened from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as of July 1. This stems from the amendment to the law, which was presented on Monday by the Minister of Health Zuzana Dolinková. At the same time, it is proposed for paediatricians to be available to patients every business day during their normal office hours in outpatient clinics and at least one day they will practice until 6:00 p.m.

The chair of Association of Cities and Towns of Slovakia Jozef Božik, emphasized that neither the Association nor the mayors like the consolidation of outpatient emergency services.  I want to emphasize that no mayor of any city is in favour of this consolidation amendment. On the other hand, as rational people, we have clearly heard the arguments… but we are saying that we are saving the collapsing system of outpatient emergency rooms for children," he declared.

The head of the Slovak Society of Primary Paediatric Care, Elena Prokopová, emphasized that the situation in paediatrics is alarming from the point of view of the staff, and everyone's goal is to take care of the children.
